600 missing people found so far through Ft Lauderdale program

When a 15 year old girl in need of medical attention went missing in Port Charlotte, Florida on September 20th, the Charlotte County, Florida Sheriff’s Office called the A Child Is Missing Alert Program seeking assistance in the agency’s search for the girl.  Fourteen hundred alert phone calls later, the girl was located safe as a result of the alert calls and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office had registered the 600th safe assisted recovery for A Child Is Missing.

A Child Is Missing fields phone calls like the one from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office everyday.  An 80 year old man in need of medical assistance located in Longview, Texas on August 31st; an eight year old girl found in Basehor, Kansas on September 5th; a six year old boy in Victorville, California on June 6th; and a 51 year old cognitively impaired man in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, missing for three days, located within two hours by the alert program on August 11th.  All reunited with their loved ones after law enforcement partnered with the Florida-based national non-profit A Child Is Missing.

When a child, elderly person, or disabled person goes missing and law enforcement respond, they have the A Child Is Missing alert program as a free resource available to them.  With one phone call, police activate the alert program, the area in which the person was last seen is mapped via computer, and telephone alert calls are placed to that area seeking information.  This scenario replicates itself everyday in communities throughout the country—all of which have access to the alert program through their law enforcement agency.

Founded in 1997, A Child Is Missing is a national non-profit 501(c)3 that, by partnering with law enforcement as a free resource to them, reunites families with their missing loved ones.  Activated only by law enforcement, by use of computer mapping, satellite imagery, and a high-speed telephone alert system, A Child Is Missing can place 1,000 alert phone calls in one minute seeking information about the missing person or their whereabouts.  Visit www.achildismissing.org.
