National Association of Counties Names Ilene Lieberman CHAIR of Large Urban County Caucus Steering Committee

Broward County Commissioner Ilene Lieberman has been named chair of the National Association of Counties Large Urban County Caucus (LUCC) Steering Committee. The Large Urban County Caucus is a bipartisan coalition of elected county executives from across the nation representing more than 130 million people.

“Large urban counties, such as Broward County, share common issues and challenges. Together, as the LUCC, we stand strong to lobby for legislation that enhances and protects the best interests of our counties nationwide,” said Commissioner Lieberman, who is a long-standing member of the National Association of Counties (NACo). “I’m honored to serve as president of this influential and important steering committee.”

According to NACo, large Urban County Caucus members play a significant role in national policy because they represent nearly one in every two Americans and are responsible for providing a broad range of services to their residents. Therefore, LUCC’s goal is to provide useful information to its 1,000 elected members as they search for pragmatic solutions to the challenges facing the nation’s 100 largest urban counties.

The announcement was made at NACo’s 2009 Annual Conference and Exposition in Nashville-Davidson County, Tenn.

Commissioner Lieberman also serves as the vice chair of NACo’s Housing Subcommittee and is a member of the organization’s Community and Economic Development Steering Committee.
