The point is to create an object that is familiar and identifiable to your children and that is easily portable so you can pull it out when you need it no matter where you are and have your child take a time out.

Once you have the time out spot, the rest of the technique works just the same. Start with a stern and calm warning and if the improper behavior continues, it’s time to move to the time out.

  1. Explain to your child why you are placing them in time out and that they must stay until you tell them.
  2. Place your child in the time out spot for 1 minute per year of their age (3 minutes for a 3-year-old, 6 minutes for a 6-year-old, etc).
  3. At the end of the time out, the child must apologize.
  4. Hug and remind your child that you love them.

Remember that for the time out a technique to be successful, you need to be consistent. Parents need to be calm and confident when giving discipline. If your child senses that you are nervous or embarrassed with your discipline technique, they will attempt to use this against you.

As a final tip, don’t let strangers get in the way of your positive parenting technique. Who cares if a few strangers stare at you for putting your child on a time out blanket? Selling Zero With No Bonds

The end of the post consumer economy may be in sight. For decades we have lived on credit. We have borrowed money from the Chinese to buy Chinese goods. Lately the Chinese have openly stated that they hate us for devaluing all those dollars they are holding. They have threatened to stop buying government bonds.

Closer to home our banks actually lowered the number of loans they give out despite the bailouts and bonuses.

Paradoxically, the government is trying to ease credit, even though it was easy credit that got us in to this mess. At the behest of liberal legislators banks and regulators allowed and encouraged loans to people who didn’t have a chance in hell of paying them back.

An examination of the the whole credit and loan system involved a practice I like to call selling zero. Through something called the fractional reserve system, when you deposit money in a bank they keep part of it and loan out part of it. If you come back to the bank and ask for your money back they would have to honor that request. In theory the bank could lend out more money than they have deposited. The additional amount they can lend out is controlled by the federal reserve bank and appears to us as money created out of thin air. Some call this a kind of Wall Street Ponzi scheme. Nonetheless, our economy has been built on it. Since the money is created out of thin air I like to call it selling zero.

There has been a practice in the loan industry of selling loans. In fact, a home owner might have found that every couple of years, or in some cases every year, the address to which his monthly payments were sent has changed because the loan was sold.

Taken together, these monetary practices have led us to our current impasse. Some financial wizards reasoned that if banks could sell zero by creating money from deposits. Wouldn’t it be a neat idea to sell less than zero? Wouldn’t it be cool to sell something that was worth less than nothing? Now where oh where could they find such a thing? Ah, here it is. There were those who understood the principles underlying this toxic Ponzi scheme who bought and sold this septic tank funny money anyway. Why you may well ask? Well they relied on a principle called the Bigger Fool Theory. The Bigger Fool Theory roughly states that no matter how stupid you were to buy shear and utter crap there is a bigger fool than you who will pay more money than you did to take that fermented steer manure off your hands.

The problem comes when some government bureaucrat regulator who, upon removing his shoes, can count to twenty, opens the package that, as they said to the transporter, was never meant to be opened, and takes one whiff of the rancid offal inside. Once this red tape jockey starts screaming the emperor is naked, the shout gets heard round the world. Hey, everyone every where says, we bought a boat load of crap sandwiches here too. Five Steps to a Well Chiseled Body

There are five basic rules that you must keep in mind when doing muscle building. Each one is important in its own way and sticking to the rules will soon have you rippling your way through the streets. These five orders are:

  1. Never Do More Than Ten Repetitions.

Now, the number of reps. you have to do depends on the kind of training you’re into. To put it succinctly – light reps. for good tone and more reps. for forcing growth and the golden rule is not more than ten reps at a time. The ten rule will force your muscles to grow. More muscle fibers will begin to grow adding bulk to the muscle. Choose your weights in such a way that you get the maximum benefit with just ten repetitions.

Heavy lifting is the only way to get bulkier muscles. You have to get keep that always in your mind. For every exercise and for every set in every exercise, more weight is the one factor that will tell on your gaining muscle fast. You have to get into the mindset that you must lift more weights. And it is better if you do your workouts with a partner to eliminate any accidents and increase safety.

  1. Cut Down On Your Workout Time

Simple physics. More work in less time means an increase in work capacity. Work here refers to the kind of exercise, the number of sets in the exercise, the no. of reps in a set and the weight that you are lifting. Who would you say is fitter? One who can do’ x’ number of sets with ‘y’ lbs. with a’ z’ second rest or another who requires more than ‘z’ seconds for the same number of sets and poundage. The first one of course. And who is the muscular one. The one who has the greater work capacity, undoubtedly.

So the next time you go to your gym, try to finish your present workout in lesser time. Shorten the workout time by taking shorter rests. Shift from one exercise to another in a shorter time. You may feel out of shape initially. But this is the best way to a higher muscle density and a higher fitness level.

  1. Restrict Your Exercise To One Per Muscle Group

It is surprising, is it not? Yes, unless it is assumed that working a group of muscles to exhaustion is going to make them sit up and grow. Take for example a chest exercise. A bench press exercise. Start the first set with 185 lbs, move to the next with 205 and to the third with 225 and finally the fourth with 245 lbs.

We’ll assume also that this is the maximum weight for the desired number of repetitions. It should be stopped with that. There is no point in exhausting your muscles. All that is needed is to give them a push button start and they will take over in nature’s own way. There is no necessity to give them a kick or a jump start. The lesson is: perform one exercise for one muscle group, move on to the next group.

  1. Restrict Exercising To Three To Five Sets For Each Muscle Group

It is questionable if you do more than 3 to 5 sets of exercise for each group of muscles. This, of course, doesn’t apply to users of steroids and those whose muscles grow with just a little stimulus. But keep in mind, new rules are required for hard gainers.

Normally, it can be easily seen that you’ll be putting in 85% of your maximum effort in the first two sets which will increase to 95% for the third and the maximum in either the fourth or the fifth. It’s the last and final effort that gets you the muscles. Any effort more than this is only going to overwork your muscles with less time to recuperate. You will not be able to perform the same way again. So restrict your muscle growing to the mandatory three to five sets for each muscle group.

  1. Increase Your Effort By 5% Every Fortnight

You have to keep track of your progress. Some people make the basic mistake of mot tracking their progress. Day in and day out, they go to the gym and repeat the same set of exercises just like a zombie, without any care to see if they are progressing or not. You can’t expect any progress if you are not going to slowly increase the weights you are lifting. Your body can take it. Make your arms to lift a little more and it will adapt itself to do so. That is nature and so hit it hard and watch it grow.

Aim for a 5% increase in weights each fortnight or once in fifteen days. Do it and you will see a marked difference in the size of your muscles and in your strength. You will feel it in your bones. Just imagine, six months from now and twice as stronger. Good progress, wouldn’t you say? It would be even better if you keep a written record of your progress and look at it a few times. Easy to Make Homemade Chinese “Takeout”

I absolutely love Chinese fast food but where I live, good Chinese restaurants are few and far between. Because of this, I have learned how to make several of my favorite Asian dishes at home. I was surprised to find that many of these dishes are really easy to make. Once you get the hang of it, you could be like me and prefer your own versions of the dishes to the ones at the restaurant. However, before you start with the preparation of any of the dishes doing a food tolerance test can be helpful. Many Chinese restaurants start the meal with egg rolls and soup. My favorite soup is egg drop soup. After much research, I finally found a recipe for egg drop soup that is delicious and so easy, you won’t believe it. Bring four cups of water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, add three cubes of chicken bouillon and let them dissolve. While you’re waiting, break two eggs into a cup or bowl and scramble them with a fork. When all the bouillon has dissolved, turn the broth down to a slow boil. Then slowly pour in the scrambled egg mixture. You should see the egg turn into noodles as it hits the water. (If it doesn’t, pour it all out and try again.) Allow the soup to continue to cook for another minute or two, season with salt and pepper to taste and top with chopped green onions.

Lots of people love fried rice but have absolutely no idea how to make it properly. For four servings, make the appropriate amount of rice and allow it to dry out slightly (for best results, use something other than minute rice. I like jasmine rice.) You can even do this the night or a couple of days beforehand. Once you’re ready to cook, take a large wok or deep nonstick pan, set to medium heat and pour three tablespoons of sesame oil into the pan. Next, add your meat of choice and season accordingly (try a pound of chopped chicken with a little ginger, minced garlic, chopped onion, pepper, and soy sauce). Once the meat is completely cooked, add the rice and mix thoroughly. Season the mixture with salt, pepper, garlic powder (if you didn’t already add minced garlic), a dash of ginger, and soy sauce to taste. Mix the rice well again and add vegetables. Add as many of the following as you like: peas, carrots, baby corn, broccoli, red peppers, mushrooms, water chestnuts, bean sprouts, and bamboo shoots.

Finally, end your meal with a favorite Chinese takeout dessert: sugar biscuits. Just grab a 12-ounce can of regular biscuits from the grocery store (don’t get the flaky kind, they won’t turn out right) and separate the biscuits. Heat about two cups of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350 degrees. Place several biscuits in the oil then fry until golden brown. Once one side is done, flip to fry the other side. Remove the biscuits from the oil and allow them to drain on paper towels for a couple of minutes. Then, dip them in a bowl of sugar to coat all sides. Once they’re cool enough to handle, eat and enjoy!

US Soccer Team Defeats Algeria To Advance In World Cup

In the 91st minute of a scoreless match against Algeria, the US soccer team added a new chapter in the book of World Cup soccer. Going into the June 23 match, the Algerian team was winless, while the US had beaten Slovenia and played the UK to a tie. The pundits gave the often undisciplined Americans little chance of beating Algeria – but were proven wrong. 

After 90 minutes of knuckle-biting back and forth that yielded no results for either team, the game went into what I imagine for soccer fans is the equivalent of ‘sudden death’ overtime. A “where the heck did that come from?” kick by the Americans in the first minute of the extra period sent the ball sailing into the net, and even for a non-soccer fan like me, it was exhilarating. Not only did the American team win, but it was a shutout! The 1-0 victory advances the US to the next round, farther up the play ladder than the Americans have ever been in the history of the World Cup. 

 

This is not the first time an African team has been surprised by the wily and unpredictable Americans. In the third game of the 2009 Confederations Cup, the American team whipped Egypt 3-0 to everyone’s surprise. It’s safe to say, the June 23 defeat of Algeria was equally surprising for all the so-called soccer experts who had predicted that the Americans would go home losers. 

This turn of events has not converted me into a diehard soccer fan – not even a die soft fan – but I have, like everyone else, been caught up in the moment. In many ways, this is a historical event. The first time an African country has been the host – and the South Africans have pulled out all the stops to make it a memorable event – although, I could do without the vuvuzelas – and now, the rowdy, play by the seat of the pants Americans have added a stunning chapter to that history, by advancing against all odds. 

History favors the underdogs – this is a basic American philosophy. From the founding of the Republic, when an outmanned, outgunned bunch of ragtag colonials whipped the most powerful army in the world at the time, down to the present day. Americans seem to thrive on beating the odds; of defying the conventional wisdom. I am not predicting further victories for the US team. I didn’t predict they would get as far as they have. But, I would say this to those who blithely count them out based on past performance; think again. America is not a country that obsesses about the past. We have short attention spans where history is concerned. It is the now that counts, and the US soccer team has demonstrated that philosophy for the whole world to see. 

 

Whether they win or lose the next game, where they come up against Ghana, is irrelevant. They have already earned their place in the sun. 

To sum up, this was one of the most entertaining matches in history, one that has to be seen to be believed with splendid performances from both teams and some entertaining moves and blocks, the kind of which has become extinct today as the new players are more into finishing matches early rather than strategic planning and brilliant players. The bonus for this was the presence of Nasser-Al-Khelaifi, who was present as chief guest for the occasion.
