Nature – See It While You Can exhibit at Anne Kolb Center in #Hollywood

WHAT: The exhibit hall at the Anne Kolb Nature Center at West Lake Park hosts a free Gallery Exhibit. The show runs from Saturday, March 2 through Friday, March 29. The theme is “Nature – See It While You Can.” The works in the show are by Hollywood artist Larry Joe Miller, who is current president of the Hollywood Art Guild, and some of his friends. There will also be a Reception, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 15.

Veteran artist Miller has been president of the Hollywood Art Guild since 2009.The guild, established in 1953, meets monthly on the second Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Hollywood Beach Culture & Community Center (1301 S. Ocean Dr.). Its members are encouraged to participate in friendly art competitions that are judged and offer cash and ribbon awards. These shows are open to nonmembers as well.

The nature center’s exhibit hall is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge to view the art exhibit, although there is a per-person fee of $1 to tour the exhibit hall.

IMPACT: 50 Years of the CFDA

IMPACT: 50 Years of the CFDA is the first museum exhibition to celebrate the quintessentially American artistry of the leading fashion trade organization in the United States. Spearheaded by Council president, Diane von Furstenberg, the exhibition includes garments and accessories by the most impactful creators of the last fifty years.

Featured in the exhibition are interactive touchscreen displays that illustrate a timeline of American fashion and recognize the nearly 600 designers who have been members of the CFDA (Council Of Fashion Designers Of America) over the last five decades. (more…)

Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary School student artwork on display

Hollywood, Fla. – During the month of March, the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood will present “2013 Youth Art Month: Ode to the Masters,” an exhibition showcasing art by students from Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary School. Under the direction of art instructor Lucia Romano, this collection includes two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces, using numerous methods to create realistic and abstract portraits. This exhibition will feature art from students ages 5 to 11, with the inspiration stemming from famous artists and their work. A reception will occur on Saturday, March 9 from 1 to 3 p.m., and the pieces are on view through the month in the Center’s upstairs Student Gallery space, located at 1650 Harrison St. (more…)

Art and Culture Center of Hollywood to Present Don Lambert, Brandon Opalka, and Jenny Brillhart Exhibitions

Hollywood, Fla. – The exhibitions Don Lambert: Lawn Jobs, Brandon Opalka: Janigan’s, and Jenny Brillhart: Accumulation open on Saturday, March 9 at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood. On Friday, March 8 from 6 to 9 p.m., the Center will host an artists’ reception for these exhibitions. All non-members will be charged $10 for this event, while members are free. Free Broward hazardous waste and used electronics drop-offs

Through a partnership between Broward County Solid Waste and Recycling Services and Partner Cities and Plantation, a free drop-off event for household hazardous waste and used electronics will take place on Sunday, February 10, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Plantation Public Works Complex, 750 N.W. 91 Ave.

This event provides a great way to dispose of leftover products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive ingredients like those found in paint, pesticides, cleansers and batteries. You can also get rid of outdated electronics that are just taking up space in your home — all in one easy stop and for free!

Bring the following items for disposal: household hazardous waste, including leftover cooking oil, compact fluorescent lamps, fluorescent tubes, paint, solvents, motor oil, pesticides, household chemicals, lawn and pool chemicals, mercury thermometers, propane tanks and fire extinguishers. Used electronics accepted include TVs, computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, fax machines, cell phones, CD and DVD players, and rechargeable batteries.

Items that cannot be accepted are stereos, microwaves, kitchen appliances, explosives, biohazardous waste and business-generated waste.

Proof of Broward County residency such as a driver’s license or current utility bill is required.

Broward County operates permanent residential drop-off centers at the following locations, both of which accept household hazardous waste and used electronics and are open Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

• 2780 N. Powerline Road, Pompano Beach (north of Copans Road)
• 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., West Park (located between Miramar and Pembroke Park)

These disposal facilities and special household hazardous waste collection events are available to help reduce the potential harm of chemicals to children and pets, and contamination to our environment. Adaptive Golf as a Therapeutic Modality Approved CE Course & Workshop

Learn how golf is being used as therapy for individuals with physical/cognitive challenges and learn to teach “adaptive golf” safely to your clients.

This course is designed to educate Golf Professionals / Teachers, Therapists of multi-disciplinary processes, medical and health professionals, and volunteers about this rehabilitative, therapeutic process. (Referencing other weekly Adaptive Golf programs around the state, which have been models for Veteran Hospitals and communities nationally).
