FORT LAUDERDALE — Construction and maintenance-related lane closures on state highways in Broward County are expected during the week of March 1 through 8. Weather permitting, work will be done at the following locations throughout the county.

Construction Projects

  1. 1.      LOCATION:  I-95 from the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County to Broward Boulevard in Broward County

TRAFFIC IMPACT:

  • All eastbound and westbound lanes on Stirling Road will be closed at I-95 and traffic will be detoured around-the-clock from 11 p.m., Friday night, through 5 a.m., Monday morning, beginning on Friday night, March 1, for bridge work. All ramps to and from I-95 will remain open, but drivers exiting I-95 who want to go left underneath I-95 will also be detoured. During that period, the following detours will be in use: Westbound Stirling Road through traffic:  Drivers will be detoured north on US 1 to Griffin Road, west on Griffin Road to  State Road (SR) 7, south on SR 7 to Stirling Road. Eastbound Stirling Road through traffic: Drivers will be detoured north on SR 7 to Griffin Road, east on Griffin Road to US 1, south on US 1 to Stirling Road. Southbound I-95 exit to eastbound Stirling Road: Drivers will be detoured west to SR 7, north on SR 7 to Griffin Road, east on Griffin Road to US 1, south on US 1 to Stirling Road. Northbound I-95 exit to westbound Stirling Road: Drivers will be detoured north on US 1 to Griffin Road, east on Griffin Road to SR 7, and south on US 1 to Stirling Road
  • Up to two eastbound or westbound lanes on Stirling Road will be closed at I-95 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday night through Thursday night, through March 7, for bridge work.  At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
  • The exit ramp from northbound I-95 to Hallandale Beach Boulevard will be closed and traffic will be detoured, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night, through Thursday night, through March 7, for road work.  Drivers going north on I-95 who want to exit at Hallandale Beach Boulevard will continue north to Pembroke Road, go west on Pembroke Road to the southbound I-95 entrance ramp, and go south on I-95 to exit at Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
  • Up to two southbound lanes will be closed on I-95 from north of Griffin Road to south of Hallandale Beach Boulevard, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night, through March 7.   One lane will close at 9 p.m. and one additional lane will close at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. At least two lanes will remain open at all times. Entrance and exit ramps will be closed as needed in the work zone. Detours will be clearly marked and electronic signs will advise drivers in advance.
  • Up to two northbound lanes will be closed on I-95 between the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County and Hollywood Boulevard in Broward County, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night, through March 7.  One lane will close at 9 p.m. and one additional lane will close at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. At least two lanes will remain open at all times. Entrance and exit ramps will be closed as needed in the work zone. Detours will be clearly marked and electronic signs will advise drivers in advance.
  • Up to two eastbound or westbound lanes on Ives Daily Road will be closed as needed for roadwork between Highland Lakes Boulevard and NE 16Avenue, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night, through March 7.  At least one lane will remain open in each direction during these closures.

Description: This project will extend the High Occupancy Toll Express lanes from northern Miami-Dade County north 13 miles to Fort Lauderdale. The project includes installing Intelligent Transportation System components; modifying the Ives Dairy Road interchange; bridge widening at specific locations and installing new noise barrier walls at locations between Hollywood Boulevard and Taft Street. Cost/Completion: The construction cost is $106 million. All eastbound and westbound lanes on Stirling Road will be closed at I-95 and traffic will be detoured around-the-clock from 11 p.m., Friday night, through 5 a.m., Monday morning, beginning on Friday night, Feb.22, for bridge work. All ramps to and from I-95 will remain open, but drivers exiting I-95 who want to go left underneath I-95 will also be detoured.

 

  1. 2.      Eller Drive east of the I-595/US 1 interchange at Port Everglades

Traffic Impact:

  • Intermittent lanes may be closed in either direction within the project limits Monday through Friday at all times.
  • Intermittent lanes on eastbound I-595 will be closed overnight Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 from 6 p.m. through 4 a.m.
  • Intermittent lanes on eastbound I-595 will be closed overnight Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 8 from 9 p.m. through 4 a.m.
  • One westbound lane will be closed on Eller Drive at 7th Avenue Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 8 from 9 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.
  • One westbound lane will be closed overnight on Eller Drive at 7th Avenue Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 8 from 6 p.m. through 5:30 a.m.
  • All eastbound I-595 lanes east of US 1 are shifted north onto new roadway until spring 2013.

Description: A new overpass is being built over Eller Drive and the Port Everglades Railroad. The project includes reconstruction of several ramps in the I-595/US 1/Eller Drive interchange, reconstruction of the Eller Drive intersections at NE 7th Avenue, NE 14th Avenue and McIntosh Road, installation of new railroad tracks and crossing signals, drainage retention ponds, moving utilities out of the construction path, concrete pavement roadway construction, highway lighting system, landscaping and irrigation.

Cost/Completion:  $42.5 million.  Completion is expected May 2014.

 

  1. 3.      State Road 820 (Hollywood Boulevard) from State Road 7/US 441 to 44th Avenue in Hollywood

Traffic Impact:

  • One inside lane in each direction will be intermittently closed on Hollywood Boulevard overnight Sunday, March 3 through Friday, March 8 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • All northbound and southbound lanes on Circle Drive, 48th Avenue and 50th Avenue will be closed on Hollywood Boulevard at all times Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 8. Traffic will be detoured via 52nd Avenue and 44th Avenue.
  • One lane in each direction on Hollywood Boulevard will be periodically closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Description: Major drainage and roadway improvements being made include: Removing the old asphalt and repaving Hollywood Boulevard throughout the project limits, installation of a new drainage system, shoulder widening for bike lanes in each direction, adding a raised median with curb, new decorative highway lighting system, sidewalk improvements and adding ADA ramps at intersections and driveways, adding pedestrian countdown times at crosswalks, adding new video detection at traffic signals, planting landscaping in the new median and along both sides of the road.

Cost/Completion: $5.8 million construction contract. Completion is November.

 

  1. 4.      SW10th Street from Powerline Road to East Newport Center Drive in Deerfield Beach

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane in each direction will be closed intermittently on SW10th Street Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: Project improvements include repaving SW10th Street, modifying shoulder width, install video detection system, install guardrail on bridge, evaluate drainage conditions, evaluate non-functional driveways, new signs, new pavement markings, installing ADA ramps and minor landscaping.

Cost/Completion: $2 million. Completion is expected February.

 

  1. 5.      Broward County Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) Project in Fort Lauderdale/Oakland Park/Wilton Manors/Lauderhill/Lauderdale Lakes/Sunrise/Plantation

Traffic Impact:

  • One outside westbound lane on Sunrise Boulevard from NW 27th Terrace to NW 34th Avenue will be closed Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: Project improvements include installation of fiber optic communications infrastructure, closed circuit TV cameras, Arterial Dynamic Message Signs, emergency pre-emption system devices, microwave vehicle detection system and travel time system.

Cost/Completion: $8.9 million. Completion expected in fall 2013.

 

  1. US27 from Pines Boulevard to Griffin Road in Pembroke Pines/Southwest Ranches/Weston

Traffic Impact:

  • One southbound lane on US27 just north of Griffin Road will be closed at all times through March 2013.
  • One lane will be periodically closed in each direction on US27 Monday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • One lane will be periodically closed in each direction on US27 Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. No lane closures will occur within school zone hours.

Description: Project improvements include repaving roadway, installing new traffic signal at intersections, widening southbound and northbound left turn lanes on US27 at Johnson Street, Sheridan Street and Griffin Road, removing left turn lane from US27 onto westbound Pines Boulevard and widening the southbound left turn lane from US27 onto eastbound Pines Boulevard and installing minor drainage.

Cost/Completion: $3.9 million. Completion expected in April.

 

  1. SR9/I-95 from Pembroke Road to Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open through March 8.

Description: Project improvements include installing concrete lining in existing ditch.

Cost/Completion: $1.6 million. Completion expected in March 2013.

 

 

  1. 8.      Griffin Road from I-75 Interchange to Weston Road in Southwest Ranches/Weston//Davie

Traffic Impact:

  • One outside lane in each direction on Griffin Road will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Description: Project improvements include re-aligning the exit ramp from southbound I-75 to westbound Griffin Road re-aligning the entrance ramp from westbound Griffin Road to southbound I-75, installing a new traffic signal on Griffin Road at the re-aligned southbound ramps, repaving ramps and roadway within project limits, installing new signs, installing new drainage, planting new landscape along the re-aligned southbound exit ramps

Cost/Completion: $2.1 million. Completion expected in June.

 

 

  1. 9.      SR838/Sunrise Boulevard at NW31st Avenue and NW27th Avenue in Lauderhill/Broward
  • One lane will be closed in all directions at the Sunrise Boulevard – NW 31st Avenue intersection Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: Project improvements include repaving intersections, installing dual-left turn lanes on NW31st Avenue, installing new mast arms on NW31st Avenue, rebuilding and installing additional signals, installing new lighting, installing new overhead signs at NW31st Avenue, installing pedestrian countdown timers and upgrading intersection to meet ADA requirements.

Cost/Completion: $961, 151. Completion is expected in May.

 

  1. 10.  I-95 at Davie Boulevard, Broward Boulevard, State Road 84 and I-595 Interchange in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes of the southbound I-95 connector from the Broward County Amtrak Station will be closed at all times beginning Friday, March 1 at 8 p.m. and will re-open Sunday, March 3 at 6 a.m. All traffic will be detoured to Broward Boulevard’s I-95 southbound entrance ramp.
  • One lane of the southbound I-95 connector to eastbound I-595 will be closed overnight Sunday, March 3 through Monday, March 4 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • One lane of the southbound I-95 connector to westbound I-595 will be closed overnight Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Description: This project includes sealing 13 bridge decks with an epoxy overlay. Cost/Completion: $3.8 million. Completion is expected in May.

 

  1. 11.  State Road 820 (Pines Boulevard) from US 27 to University Drive in Pembroke Pines

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open through March 8.

Description: This project includes the removal and replacement of high mast lights along the north side of Pines Boulevard.

Cost/Completion: $889,489. Completion is expected in March.

 

  1. 12.  Broward County Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) Project in Hollywood/Pembroke Pines/Hallandale Beach/ West Park/Pembroke Park

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open through March 8.

Cost/Completion: $5.3 million. Completion expected in fall 2014.

 

  1. 13.  A1A between NE 14 Court and NE 18 Street in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • The speed limit has been lowered to 25 MPH through the construction project limits.
  • Drivers should watch for slow moving construction vehicles entering and leaving the construction zone on the east side of A1A.
  • A1A is open to one travel lane and one bike lane northbound and southbound.
  • Parking and sidewalk are open on the west side of A1A only.
  • Beach-goers should use the beach access points to the north and south of the construction area – Do not walk through the construction site.

Description: Emergency repairs are being made to A1A in this area. Crews are bringing in equipment and removing sections of the concrete wall and sidewalk that were damaged during Hurricane Sandy in October and the Thanksgiving weekend storms in November. FDOT plans to install sheet pile along the eastern edge of the damaged portion of A1A to stabilize the road. Once the restoration work is completed the roadway will be restriped to include one northbound lane, one southbound lane and a center left-turn lane along with a bike lane in both directions. The temporary, orange & white barrier wall will be removed and the east side of the road will be re-opened to beach-goers and pedestrians. The sidewalk and parallel parking will remain open on the west side.

Cost/Completion: This emergency contract is $8.3 million.  Completion is anticipated late April.

 

  1. 14.  Rehabilitation of the Fort Lauderdale Train Station in Fort Lauderdale/Broward County

Traffic Impacts:

  • No lane closures anticipated for this project.

Description: Project improvements include upgrades to existing station exterior to withstand adverse weather conditions – particularly wind, water and moisture, improve accessibility to and from the existing train station, renovate inside of train station to meet ADA requirements and upgrade the aesthetic and appearance of train station lobby.

Cost/Completion: $1.08 million. Completion expected in February 2014.

 

  1. 1.      A1A at various locations in Broward County

Traffic Impacts:

  • One lane in either direction will be closed on A1A at SE 6th Street Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • One lane in either direction will be closed at 1704 N Ocean Drive Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • One lane in either direction will be closed at 1057 Hillsboro Boulevard Wednesday, March 6 through Friday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • One lane in either direction will be closed on A1A at NE 1st Street Wednesday, March 6 through Friday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: Push button project improvements include sidewalk improvements, curb ramps and new crosswalks at A1A and SE 6th Street intersection, mid block at 1704 N Ocean Drive, 1057 Hillsboro Mile, NE 1st Street.

  1. 15.  Cost/Completion: $33,000. March 2013.

 

Maintenance & Permit Projects:

 

  1. 16.  US 1 near Port Everglades & Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport
  • All northbound and southbound lanes on US 1 are shifted to the east between Griffin Road and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport interchange for construction of the new runway through summer 2013.
  • One northbound and one southbound lane on US 1 are closed at the I-595 interchange for construction at the airport through summer 2013.   1. 17.  Sample Road from NE3rd Avenue to North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach
  • Two eastbound lanes on Sample Road will be permanently closed between NE3rd Avenue to North Dixie Highway for the construction and installation of new water and sewer main systems. This closure will be in place through March 2013.

  1. 18.  Stirling Road from NW67th Avenue to just east of Davie Road
  • One outside eastbound lane will be closed on Stirling at all times through March for the installation of a force main.

  1. 19.  US 1 from SE 15th Street to NE 51st Street in Pompano Beach
  • Two southbound lanes on US 1 will be closed between SE15th Street to NE51st Street for the construction and installation of new water and sewer main systems. This closure will be in place beginning Monday, March 4 through Tuesday, March 19 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

  1. 20.  Las Olas Boulevard Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale
  • The outside lane will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for structure repair.

 

  1. 21.  Bayview Drive at Oakland Park Boulevard
  • Northbound left turn lane to westbound Oakland Park Boulevard will be closed Monday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for asphalt repairs.
  • Eastbound left turn lane on Oakland Park Boulevard at Bayview Drive will be closed Monday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for asphalt repairs.

 

  1. 22.  U.S. 1 from 21st Street and 23rd Street in Fort Lauderdale
  • Northbound right turn lane will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for curb repairs.

 

  1. 23.  SR A1A at Datura Avenue in Lauderdale by the Sea
  • Southbound right lane will be closed Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for asphalt repairs.
