Every year, more than 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, but early detection saves lives.  To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, each October Broward Health offers MAMMOPALOOZA, a fun, frilly, girl-themed event that provides extended opportunities for mammograms at all Broward Health hospitals.

Broward Health will host the fourth annual MAMMOPALOOZA from Oct. 1-31. Coordinated throughout Broward Health’s hospitals and health centers, mammograms will be offered, the Stiletto Strut exhibit will be on display and numerous events will take place to increase breast health awareness.

Broward Health North held a Mammopalooza KickOff Party and Wild Shoe event on October 8, 2012, to bring recognition to Mammopalooza

MAMMOPALOOZA focuses on the importance of getting timely mammograms and has set a goal of at least 4,200 screenings for the month of October.  Mammograms will be offered at an affordable price and most health insurance will be covered.

In addition to screenings, MAMMOPALOOZA will include raffle prizes, food, mini-spa treatments, meeting local TV and radio personalities and much more.  And those who have a mammogram during MAMMOPALOOZA will receive a special Vera Bradley gift, while supplies last.

“As a surgical oncologist, I cannot stress enough the importance of being screened for breast cancer.  Mammograms are imperative to catching the disease early.  To have an event like MAMMO-PALOOZA, which brings awareness to breast cancer and provides an opportunity for women to be tested, is very special for our community,” says Dr. Nicholas Tranakas, Broward Health Medical Center’s medical director for cancer services.

Recognizing the impact breast cancer is having on thousands of people in South Florida, Broward Health hospitals have aggressively pursued not only the best courses of detection and treatment, but also programming that assists patients receive screenings for early detection.

“Early detection and awareness is the cornerstone of MAMMOPALOOZA and the Broward Health mission,” says Frank Nask, President/CEO of Broward Health.  “This screening program can prevent more serious illness and even save the lives of our community members.”

MAMMOPALOOZA appointments include a mammography screening and review by North Broward Radiologists. Weekend and evening hours are available, and most insurance is accepted. Self-pay is $115 by cash or credit card. For more information about MAMMOPALOOZA, upcoming special events or to schedule a mammogram, call (954) 759-7500 or visit BrowardHealth.org/mammo.
