By Donna Thomas, BrowardNetOnline.com Meteorologist - Tropical Storm Leslie is racing toward Newfoundland at 35 miles per hour Monday afternoon. At 5 pm, Leslie was located at 40.0 North, 59.1 West, or 550 miles southwest of Cape Race. Maximum sustained winds were 70 miles per hour, and Leslie could strengthen to a hurricane before its center reaches eastern Newfoundland on Tuesday morning. Because Leslie remains a large system, Newfoundland will feel its effects starting Monday night, and rough seas and rip currents will continue to affect the Northeast and Canada through Tuesday.
Hurricane Michael’s top winds decreased to 75 miles per hour Monday afternoon. Michael is expected to weaken rapidly beginning Tuesday.
The disturbance in the eastern Atlantic is likely to become a depression by Tuesday. Computer models are in agreement that it will remain in open waters, following a track similar to Michael’s.
