Tony Goldman, The Visionary Who Transformed South Beach, Died Tuesday

Tony Goldman, proprietor of Goldman Properties and a true visionary developer, passed away on Tuesday in NYC.

Goldman was instrumental in the revitalization of South Beach, NYC’s SoHo district and 13th Street area in Philadelphia.  Goldman was the brains behind transforming South Beach from a moth-ridden retirement community into the celebrity-saturated party spot that was immortalized in Vanilla Ice’s seminal hit “Ice, Ice Baby.”

Beached Miami added - Outside of South Florida, Goldman led the revival of New York City’s SoHo neighborhood in the ’80s and a seedy strip of Philadelphia’s City Center in the late ’90s. When he died, he had his eye set on Boston’s Fort Point Channel area for his unique brand of urban revitalization and was still developing the historic warehouse district of Wynwood into an open-air graffiti museum of art galleries, hip restaurants/bars/cafes, and other unique small businesses.  Read more
