        FORT LAUDERDALE –   Construction and maintenance-related lane closures will affect state roadways throughout Broward County September 21 through 28, weather permitting, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) officials report.

Construction Projects:

 

  1. 1.      LOCATION:  I-95 from the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County to Broward Boulevard in Broward County

Traffic Impact:

I-95:    

  • All westbound lanes on Hollywood Boulevard will be closed at I-95 and traffic will be detoured from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Thursday nights, for bridge work.  Drivers traveling west on Hollywood Boulevard who want to go south on I-95 and drivers traveling north on I-95 who want to go west on Hollywood Boulevard will also be detoured. During these closures the following detours will be in use:
    • Westbound Hollywood Boulevard through traffic and westbound Hollywood Boulevard to southbound I-95 traffic: Drivers will be detoured on to northbound I-95 to Sheridan Street, exit and go west on Sheridan Street to the southbound  I-95 entrance ramp and take I-95 south to exit at Hollywood Boulevard or continue southbound on I-95
    • Northbound I-95 to westbound Hollywood Boulevard traffic: Drivers will be directed to continue north on I-95 to Sheridan Street, exit and go east on Sheridan Street to the Southbound I-95 entrance ramp and take I-95 south to exit at Hollywood Boulevard

 

  • Up to three northbound lanes will be closed on I-95 between the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County and Hallandale Beach Boulevard in Broward County, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night. One lane will close at 9 p.m. and up to two additional lanes will close at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. At least two lanes will remain open at all times. Entrance and exit ramps will be closed as needed in the work zone. Detours will be clearly marked and electronic signs will advise drivers in advance.

 

  • Up to two southbound lanes will be closed on I-95 from Stirling Road to Hollywood Boulevard, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night. One lane will close at 9 p.m. and one additional lane will close at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. At least two lanes will remain open at all times. Entrance and exit ramps will be closed as needed in the work zone. Detours will be clearly marked and electronic signs will advise drivers in advance.

 

  • The exit ramp from southbound I-95 to Sheridan Street will be closed and traffic will be detoured from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Drivers who want to exit on Sheridan Street from southbound I-95 will continue south to Hollywood Boulevard, go west on Hollywood Boulevard to the northbound I-95 entrance ramp, and go north on I-95 to exit at Sheridan Street.

 

  • The entrance ramp to southbound I-95 from Stirling Road will be closed and traffic will be detoured from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Drivers on Stirling Road who want to go south on I-95 will go north on I-95 to Griffin Road and go east on Griffin Road to the southbound I-95 entrance ramp.

 

  • Up to two eastbound or westbound lanes on Stirling Road will be closed at the I-95 interchange from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday night through Thursday night.

 

  • One of two lanes will be closed on the exit ramp from southbound I-95 to Ives Dairy Road from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night. At least one lane will be open during these closures.

 

  • The exit ramp from northbound I-95 to Ives Diary Road will be closed and traffic will be detoured, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday night, through Thursday night. Drivers going north on I-95 who want to exit at Ives Dairy Road will continue north to Hallandale Beach Boulevard, go west on Hallandale Beach Boulevard underneath I-95 to the southbound I-95 entrance ramp, and go south on I-95 to exit at Ives Dairy Road.

 

  • One lane on the I-95 entrance and exit ramps at Hollywood Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday night, through Thursday night for landscape removal. One lane will remain open on these ramps but drivers should use caution and watch for heavy equipment moving in and around the work zone.

 

Ives Dairy Road Interchange:

  • The left turn lane from eastbound Ives Diary Road to northbound Highland Lakes Boulevard is closed around-the-clock and eastbound traffic will remain in a temporary traffic pattern through Thursday, Sept. 27. The inside eastbound lane will serve as a through lane and a left turn lane during this closure. Delays are expected.

 

  • One of two left turn lanes from Ives Diary Road to southbound I-95 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday night through Thursday night. One left turn lane will remain open, but drivers should use caution and expect delays during this time.

 

  • Up to two eastbound or westbound lanes will be closed on Ives Dairy Road for paving between Highland Lakes Boulevard and NE 16Avenue, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night. At least one lane will remain open in each direction during these closures.

 

  • Westbound traffic approaching I-95 has been shifted to a permanent traffic pattern. The outside westbound lane is now a right-turn-only lane onto northbound I-95 and the next lane serves as a right turn lane or a through lane between Highland Lakes Boulevard and I-95.

 

  • The sidewalk along the north side of Ives Dairy Road is closed permanently between NE 16th Avenue and Highland Lakes Boulevard. Signs direct pedestrians to use the sidewalk on the south side of the road.

 

Description: This project will extend the High Occupancy Toll Express lanes from northern Miami-Dade County north 13 miles to Fort Lauderdale. The project includes installing Intelligent Transportation System components; modifying the Ives Dairy Road interchange; bridge widening at specific locations and installing new noise barrier walls at locations between Hollywood Boulevard and Taft Street. Cost/Completion: The construction cost is $106 million. Completion is expected late 2014.

 

  1. 2.      Eller Drive east of the I-595/US 1 interchange at Port Everglades

Traffic Impact:

  • Intermittent lanes may be closed in either direction within the project limits Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • One westbound lane will be closed on Eller Drive at 7th Avenue Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • All eastbound lanes of I-595 at the US 1/Eller Dr. interchange have been shifted onto a new alignment. This traffic pattern will be in effect until spring 2013. The speed limit through this new traffic pattern has been lowered to 25 MPH.
  • All northbound lanes on US 1 turning east to Port Everglades are detoured north on US 1 to SE 30TH Street to SE 6th Avenue to the Eller Drive Extension until summer 2013.
  • All eastbound lanes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport heading east to Port Everglades are detoured north on US 1 to SE 30th Street to SE 6th Avenue to the Eller Drive Extension until summer 2013.

Description: A new overpass is being built over Eller Drive and the Port Everglades Railroad. The project includes reconstruction of several ramps in the I-595/US 1/Eller Drive interchange, reconstruction of the Eller Drive intersections at NE 7th Avenue, NE 14th Avenue and McIntosh Road, installation of new railroad tracks and crossing signals, drainage retention ponds, moving utilities out of the construction path, concrete pavement roadway construction, highway lighting system, landscaping and irrigation.

Cost/Completion:  $42.5 million.  Completion is expected May 2014.

 

  1. 3.      State Road 820 (Hollywood Boulevard) from State Road 7/US 441 to 44th Avenue in Hollywood

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane in each direction on Hollywood Boulevard will be closed periodically between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • All northbound and southbound lanes on 48th Avenue and 50th Avenue will be closed periodically closed at Hollywood Boulevard Monday through Friday. Traffic will be detoured via 46th Avenue and 52nd Avenue.

Description: Major drainage and roadway improvements being made include: Removing the old asphalt and repaving Hollywood Boulevard throughout the project limits, installation of a new drainage system, shoulder widening for bike lanes in each direction, adding a raised median with curb, new decorative highway lighting system, sidewalk improvements and adding ADA ramps at intersections and driveways, adding pedestrian countdown times at crosswalks, adding new video detection at traffic signals, planting landscaping in the new median and along both sides of the road.

Cost/Completion: $5.8 million construction contract. Completion is November 2013.

 

  1. 4.      State Road 7/US 441 from Sample Road to Holmberg Road

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane will be closed periodically in either direction Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.

Description: Improvements included in this project are removing old asphalt and repaving the highway, drainage modifications, installing guardrail, upgrading traffic signals, installing new road signs and landscaping.

Cost/Completion: $3.3 million. Completion is expected late November 2012.

 

  1. 5.      State Road 814 (Atlantic Boulevard) from State Road 7/US 441 to Powerline Road in Margate-Coconut Creek-Pompano Beach area

Traffic Impact:  

  • All lanes are open through Friday, Sept. 28.

Description:  Improvements being made in this project include removing old asphalt and repaving the existing road, upgrading curb ramps at intersections and driveways, replacing pedestrian signals, installing video detection for traffic signals, bus shelters and overhead sign structure.

Cost/Completion:  $3.4 million.  Completion is expected in September 2012.

 

  1. 6.      US 1 from SE 17th Street to Broward Boulevard & Henry E. Kinney Tunnel in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • All northbound and southbound lanes of US 1 through the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel will be closed nightly Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured via SE 7 Street and Broward Boulevard west to 3rd Avenue.

Description: Improvements included in this project consist of rehabilitating a portion of the Henry Kinney Tunnel on US 1, the bridge south of that, milling and resurfacing along US1 South of Broward Blvd to 17th Street, also curb and landscaping.

Cost/Completion: $2.6 million. Completion expected in September 2012.

 

  1. 7.      State Road 820 (Pines Boulevard) from Douglas Road to 64th Way

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open. This project is completed. 

Description:  The improvements under this contract consist of removing the old asphalt and repaving the existing road, shoulder widening and installing sidewalks.

Cost/Completion:  $3.1 million.  Completion is expected in September 2012.

 

  1. 8.      State Road 814 (Atlantic Boulevard) from SE/NE 20th Avenue to A1A in Pompano Beach

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane may be closed in either direction Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Description: Improvements being made in this project include removing old asphalt, repaving the existing road and median work.

Cost/Completion:  $1.7 million.  Completion is expected in September 2012.

 

  1. 9.         17th Street Causeway Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • All eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed intermittently Monday, Sept. 24, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to test bridge operations.
  • The public parking lot under the east side of the 17th Street Causeway Bridge will be closed through September.

Description: Bridge rehabilitation includes railing repairs, lighting improvements, pressure cleaning, painting, replacing barrier wall, application of anti-graffiti coating.

Cost/Completion: $2,574,532.60. Completion is expected in September 2012.

 

  1. 10.  A1A from Oakland Park Boulevard to Flamingo Drive in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • Two lanes will be closed in each direction on A1A at Oakland Park Boulevard overnight Sunday, Sept. 23, through Tuesday night, Sept. 25, between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly. Closures will be in one direction at a time.
  • One westbound lane will be closed at all times on SW 34th Street at the A1A intersection through October.
  • One lane will be closed in each direction at various locations on A1A within the project limits Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Description: Improvements include removing old asphalt, repaving A1A, adding new bike lanes in each direction, adding curb and gutter, installing ADA ramps at intersections, extending left turn lanes, adding video detection system, installing mast arms and minor landscaping.

Cost/Completion: $2.1 million. Completion expected in December 2012.

 

  1. 11.  SW 10th Street from Powerline Road to East Newport Center Drive in Deerfield Beach

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane will be closed in each direction on SW 10th Street periodically Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Description: Project improvements include repaving SW10th Street, modifying shoulder width, install video detection system, install guardrail on bridge, evaluate drainage conditions, evaluate non-functional driveways, new signs, new pavement markings, installing ADA ramps and minor landscaping.

Cost/Completion: $2 million. Completion is expected February 2013.

 

  1. 12.  State Road 84 (Marina Mile Boulevard) from Red Road to SW 26th Terrace in Fort Lauderdale/Davie/Dania Beach/Davie area

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane will be closed in each direction Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Description: Project improvements includes repaving roadway, new curb and gutter, new video detection system, pedestrian signals, minor landscaping and adding ADA ramps at intersections.

Cost/Completion: $1.7 million. Completion is expected in November 2012.

 

  1. 13.  Stirling Road and Davie Road intersection in Davie

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane in each direction will be closed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and

4 p.m.

Description: Project improvements include repaving Stirling Road, improve curbs and sidewalks, installing ADA ramps, extending left turn lanes, adding video detection and installing mast arms at intersection.

Cost/Completion: $425,432. Completion is expected late 2012.

 

  1. 14.  Broward County Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) Project in Fort Lauderdale/Oakland Park/Wilton Manors/Lauderhill/Lauderdale Lakes/Sunrise/Plantation

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane in each direction will be closed on State Road 7/US 441 between 11th Street and 13th Street in Lauderhill Tuesday, Sept. 25, through Thursday, Sept. 27, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

Description: Project improvements include installation of fiber optic communications infrastructure, closed circuit TV cameras, Arterial Dynamic Message Signs, emergency pre-emption system devices, microwave vehicle detection system and travel time system.

Cost/Completion: $8.9 million. Completion is expected in fall 2013.

 

  1. 15.  Stirling Road from NW 68th Avenue to NW 67th Avenue in Davie/Hollywood

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane will be closed in each direction on Stirling Road Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: Project improvements include closing the median opening at 58th Avenue, repaving Stirling Road, installing ADA ramps, adding pedestrian countdown timers, replacing mast arms and minor landscaping.

Cost/Completion: $357, 637. Completion is expected in fall 2012.

 

  1. US 27 from Pines Boulevard to Griffin Road in Pembroke Pines/Southwest Ranches/Weston

Traffic Impact:

  • One lane will be closed in each direction Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and again between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • The variable speed limit signs will be used to display 45 MPH speed limit in the project work zone for the duration of the project.

Description: Project improvements include repaving roadway, installing new traffic signal at intersections, widening southbound and northbound left turn lanes on US27 at Johnson Street, Sheridan Street and Griffin Road, removing left turn lane from US27 onto westbound Pines Boulevard and widening the southbound left turn lane from US27 onto eastbound Pines Boulevard and installing minor drainage.                                                                                                                Cost/Completion: $3.9 million. Completion is expected in February 2013.

 

17. SE 17th Street/A1A from Cordova Road to just west of Eisenhower Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • Two lanes will be closed on 17th St. in each direction overnight Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. through October.
  • One eastbound lane on 17th St. will be closed Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Description:  Project improvements include repaving A1A within the project limits, installing new drainage, upgrading signalization on A1A at Cordova Road and Eisenhower Boulevard, installing new signs and pavement markings.

Cost/Completion: $713, 861. Completion is expected in October.

 

18. I-95 from Pembroke Road to Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open through Friday, Sept. 28.

Description: Project improvements include installing concrete lining in existing ditch.

Cost/Completion: $1.6 million. Completion is expected in November.

 

 

  1. 19.  Griffin Road from I-75 to Weston Road in Southwest Ranches/Weston/Davie

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open through Friday, Sept. 28.

Description: Project improvements include re-aligning the southbound entrance ramp, installing a new traffic signal on Griffin Road at the I-75 interchange, repaving all ramps and Griffin Road in the interchange, installing new highway lighting, installing new highways signs, installing new drainage and planting new landscaping.

Cost/Completion:  $2.1 million. Completion is expected in September 2013.

 

  1. 20.  I-95 between Oakland Park Boulevard Exit 31 A and Exit 31 B in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • All lanes are open through Friday, Sept. 28.

Description: Project improvements include installation of an overhead sign for Exit 31B. Cost/Completion: $79,529. Completion is expected in October.

 

  1. 21.  State Road 845 (Powerline Road) between NW 13th Street and NW 19th Street in Fort Lauderdale

Traffic Impact:

  • One on Powerline will be closed in each direction Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.

Description: Project improvements include replacing the traffic signals and installing northbound and southbound left-turn signals at the Powerline Road intersections at NW 13th Street and NW 19th Street, installing overhead flashing school zone signs on Powerline Road and installing ADA sidewalk ramps at the intersections. Cost/Completion: $793,793. Completion is expected in November.

 

  1. 22.  State Road 838 (Sunrise Boulevard at NW 31st Avenue and NW 27th Avenue in Lauderhill & Unincorporated Broward County

Traffic Impact:

  • This project begins Monday, Sept. 24. One lane will be closed in each direction at NW 31st Avenue Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Description:  Project improvements include repaving the intersections, installing dual-left turn lanes on NW 31st Avenue, installing new traffic signal mast arms on SW 31st Avenue, rebuilding and installing additional signals, installing new lighting, installing new overhead signs at NW 31st Avenue, installing pedestrian countdown timers and upgrading sidewalk ramps. Cost/Completion: $961,151. Completion is expected in May 2013.

 

Maintenance Projects:

 

  1. 23.  Atlantic Boulevard Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Pompano Beach
  • One eastbound lane will be closed Monday, Sept. 24, and one westbound lane will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 25, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day for the annual bridge inspection.

 

  1. 24.  Sheridan Street Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Hollywood 
  • The bridge will be closed to all traffic overnight Tuesday, Sept. 215, and Wednesday, Sept. 26, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night for bridge deck work. During this closure motorists may use Hollywood Boulevard Bridge to the south or the Dania Beach Boulevard Bridge to the north.
