Tropical Storm Isaac Struggling … But Still a Threat

Tropical Storm Isaac Struggling … But Still a Threat

By Donna Thomas, BrowardNetOnline - Tropical Storm Isaac weakened slightly overnight and remains disorganized as it moves more slowly through the eastern Caribbean. As of 5 am Thursday, Isaac’s center is estimated at 15.3 North, 64.0 West, but may actually be slightly south of that.  Maximum sustained winds were down to 40 miles per hour at 5 am, and the storm was moving west at 12 miles per hour.

Isaac is expected to strengthen today as conditions become more favorable for development. It is forecast to reach hurricane strength as it approaches Hispaniola on Friday. Isaac is expected to move over eastern Cuba on Saturday.  How long it spends over land will determine how strong Isaac becomes as it approaches Florida.

Even though the 4 to 5 day portion of ”the cone” has shifted westward, South Florida remains in the risk area, with significant probablities of tropical storm force winds Sunday night through Monday.  Everyone in Florida should pay close attention to Isaac’s progress.
