Applications Being Accepted for Miramar Citizens’ Police Academy

The Miramar Police Department announces the 34th Citizens’ Police Academy scheduled to begin Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Qualified Miramar residents interested in learning more about the Miramar Police Department and the field of law enforcement can sign up for the free 14-week academy being held August 14 – November 13.

Classes meet every Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Certified instructors provide citizens with a better understanding of the day-to-day operations of the police department. Class topics include: DUI enforcement, economic crimes, burglary investigations, juvenile and child abuse investigations, the role of the Medical Examiner office.

Demonstrations by the K-9 unit and laser/radar will be performed; students will also have an opportunity to participate in the ‘Ride-Along’ program, allowing them to ride with an officer during a regular patrol shift.

How to Apply:

Interested citizens must complete a “Citizens’ Police Academy Application” and allow a background investigation to check for criminal history. You may fill out the application by:

* downloading the application from www.miramarpd.org, or

* calling (954) 602-4351 to have the application mailed or faxed to you
