Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are releasing surveillance video of a suspect who stole the belongings of an out of town family and then went on a shopping spree with the credit cards.
On May 24, a couple visiting from Germany with their two boys (5 and 6 years of age) was staying at the Paradise by the Sea motel located at 4208 N. Ocean Drive in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. The parents don’t recall locking the door before they went to bed, but when they woke up the next morning, they found the belongings that were sitting on a table adjacent to the door were gone. The burglar stole a laptop, cell phone, camera, wallet and credit cards.
In a matter of eight hours (from 3:30 a.m.-11:40 a.m. May 25), the suspect charged about $5,000 worth of merchandise at the Walmart, Home Depot, Publix and 7-Eleven Mobil gas station in Hallandale Beach; the Pep Boys auto parts and Publix in North Miami Beach and a Walgreens in Oakland Park.
The surveillance video shows images of the suspect walking around the pool area of the Paradise by the Sea motel, followed by video of the suspect at a few of the stores where he utilized the stolen credit cards.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the burglary is asked to contact BSO Detective Manny Alvarez at 954-640-4240 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
