New 595 Express Bus Service from Sunrise to Miami and Fort Lauderdale starts next week

Click here to subscribe for email news updates from BrowardNETOnline.comBeginning on Tuesday, May 29, Broward County Transit (BCT) introduces 595 Express Bus service, with two routes from the Sunrise park-and-ride located at the BankAtlantic Center to downtown Miami/Brickell Avenue and downtown Fort Lauderdale. The fare will be free to all passengers the first week, May 29 through June 1, 2012.
The public is invited to join federal, state, county and local officials at the launch event for the new service on Tuesday, May 29, beginning at 7:30 a.m. for a “ride-along” with the passengers on the downtown Fort Lauderdale route. From 4 to 6 p.m., a “meet-and-greet” with light refreshments will take place.
The 595 Express Bus service, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays during morning and afternoon peak traffic hours. The fleet used on the service will be new 42-foot hybrid buses equipped with Wi-Fi and 12-volt power outlets for charging electronic communication equipment.
Southbound morning buses to downtown Miami/Brickell Avenue will depart Sunrise at 5:20 a.m. up to 7:40 a.m. every 30 minutes and end at the Brickell Plaza at Southwest 9 Street and South Miami Avenue. Bus stops along the route will include the Overtown Metrorail Station, Federal Courthouse and within walking distance to the Miami-Dade Government Center and Miami-Dade College.
Northbound afternoon buses to Sunrise will depart at 3:35 p.m. up to 6:05 p.m. every 30 minutes from the Brickell Metrorail Station at Southwest 10 Street and Southwest 1 Avenue.
Eastbound morning buses to downtown Fort Lauderdale will depart at 6:05 a.m. up to 8:30 a.m. every 30 minutes and end at the Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail Station. Bus stops along the route will include the Broward County Governmental Center, Federal Courthouse, Broward School Board and Broward General Medical Center.
Westbound afternoon buses to Sunrise will depart at 3:30 p.m. up to 6:05 p.m. every 30 minutes from the Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail Station.
The Miami/Brickell Avenue route will make a stop at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Tri-Rail Station that also has a park-and-ride lot. The Fort Lauderdale route will make three morning and afternoon reverse commute trips to and from the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise.
After the free fare week, the Premium Express bus fares will apply to the 595 Express Bus services, as follows: $2.35 for a one-way adult trip; $23.50 for a Premium 10-Ride Bus Pass and $85 for a Premium 31-Day Bus Pass. The Premium 31-Day Bus Pass will be accepted on all BCT bus routes, and both Premium passes are available for purchase online at broward.org/bct; click on Bus Pass Purchase, and at the Central Bus Terminal, Miramar, Pembroke Pines/Walter C. Young and South Regional/Broward College libraries.
