Residents of Coral Springs and the surrounding communities now have a new ER for their healthcare needs. Hospital employees, city officials and EMS from surrounding cities along with dignitaries and community members all recently joined together for the grand opening of the newly expanded ER at Broward Health Coral Springs Medical Center (CSMC).

Attendees toured the facility admiring the new amenities including its private exam rooms fitted with the latest hi-tech equipment such as electronic charting, flat screen TVs, and comfortable and gleaming surroundings. There is also a designated delivery room for those expecting mothers who can’t wait to deliver upstairs in the hospital’s inpatient labor and delivery rooms.  The ER features Primary Stroke Center designation, critical care treatment rooms, a family quiet room and two fully equipped triage areas. Its ER for Kids, which was voted as the Best Pediatric ER in Broward County, has a designated pediatric waiting room along with 8 pediatric private rooms.

“This expansion is something we have envisioned for a long time,” said Drew Grossman, CEO of Broward  Health Coral Springs Medical Center. “When the hospital opened 23 years ago, it was built to accommodate a population of 47,000. We saw nearly 52,000 patients last year alone. Needless to say, it was long overdue to accommodate today’s growing population of over 130,000 people along with additional surrounding cities such as Tamarac, Coconut Creek, Margate and Parkland.”

This $21 million expansion project broke ground in January 2008 with phase 1(the expansion portion) now completed as scheduled.  Phase 2 (the original ER portion) is currently under renovation to match the new expansion and estimated to be completed in the Spring of 2011. Now with the expansion, the entire ER is 28,000 square feet—nearly doubling its original size, and increasing its number of exam rooms from 23 to 40.

“This will help alleviate the burgeoning patient admissions and expedite patients through the department more efficiently while decreasing turnaround time and increasing patient satisfaction,” said Dr. Daniel Stone, Emergency Department Medical Director.
