Two Coconut Creek residents named Points of Light

Governor Charlie Crist has recognized Bob and Joan Nast of Coconut Creek as this week’s Points of Light for Disability Awareness Month.

“Bob and Joan have completely devoted their lives to serving others,” said Governor Crist. “They have selflessly provided amazing opportunities to families and children with developmental disabilities and serious illnesses.”

For over 20 years, Bob and Joan Nast have been helping children with disabilities and other illnesses. The Nasts sold everything they owned to found God’s Little Acres (Click here to see site) on their five-acre ranch in Coconut Creek. Children and families can enjoy miniature horses, hay rides, clown shows, a petting zoo, games, and entertainment, free of charge. The couple also donates food, clothing and shelter to families in need. Since its inception 13 years ago, the Nasts have helped more than 9,000 children.

“As the mayor of a neighboring city, I have known the Nasts and this facility for many years,” said Mayor Michael Udine of Parkland. “The people they serve are from all different walks of life and religions, and each one is treated with the utmost dignity and respect.”

AAA Auto Club South is the supporting sponsor of the Governor’s Points of Light Award.   Walt Disney World is an in-kind supporter.  This program recognizes Florida residents who demonstrate exemplary service to the community. Award recipients are announced weekly.  A panel of judges comprised of leaders in the areas of volunteerism and service evaluate all nominations and make recommendations to the Governor. Florida’s Foundation manages the program. For more information, or to submit a nomination, go to www.FloridasFoundation.org.
