Skeletal remains found in Broward on U.S. 27

A Broward County man made a frightening discovery Monday morning when a quick bathroom stop led him to find human skeletal remains along U.S. 27.

The man was driving south on U.S. 27 with his family, returning home from Palm Beach County. He drove onto a small, narrow road on the west side of the U.S. 27, near mile marker 45, for a bathroom break. After, the man made a u-turn and before exiting back onto U.S. 27, he noticed a patch of the brush that was flattened, as if by an animal. The man took a closer look in an attempt to see the animal but instead found a clothed skeleton.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene and Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation. The remains will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office where, with the help of a forensic anthropologist, they will try to identify the deceased person, determine how long the body has been in the Everglades and the cause of death.

The gender of the deceased has not yet been determined.

Anyone with information about this case should contact BSO Homicide Detective Efrain Torres at or Broward Crime Stopper, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
