Census Forms Should No Longer Be Mailed

Beginning on May 1, Census Workers will be conducting door to door operation.  Census workers will be carrying a Census official bag, and an ID without a picture.  The ID will have their name, and anyone in doubt can ask the worker for an ID with a picture if they so desire to confirm that they are who the ID says they are.  The Census worker will be sent up to six times until we find someone at home, or we confirm that the home is vacant.  We will sometimes go on weekends, evenings, etc…

Liberty Park will be closed from May 3rd – May 29th in order to complete annual maintenance.

Women and Nutrition with Pamela Ofstein:  TUES MAY 11, 10:00

Learn the latest in nutrition and diet for women.  Pam Ofstein MS, RD, LD/N is a registered and licensed dietitian, eDiets Director of Nutrition, Consultant Dietitian and writes a monthly column in Parkland Life magazine. Registration required.

Time for Tea!   MON MAY 17, 11:00 am

Learn the history of tea and how to present a high tea with Barbara of the Orchid Tea Room.  Barbara the Tea Specialist has been studying tea since 2001 and has been certified by the Specialty Tea Institute of America.  Enjoy samples of organic teas from the Orchid Tea Room.  Tea sets on loan from various Parkland Residents will be displayed all month in the library.   Registration required.

The Sounds of Jazz:  THUR, MAY 20th,  4:30 pm

Markus Howell, a 14-year-old jazz saxophonist from Dillard High School, will perform in the Parkland Library to celebrate the Parkland Friends of the Library and their newly expanded coffee bar.

Reorganize and De-Stress with Dr. Amy Demner:
MON, MAY 24th, 10:30 am

Are the commitments and responsibilities you own overcrowding your life’s closet?  Dr. Amy Demner, LMHC, who has 20 years experience as a psychotherapist, will provide tips and answers on how to balance your life.  Registration required. 

Summer Storytime Registration:   MAY  24 – MAY 26

During this three day period you may register your child’s name on our numbered storytime class lottery list.  There will be a separate list for each class.  You may register each child’s name only once per class.  Numbers will be drawn and all selected participants will be notified by June 2nd. You must be a Parkland Library cardholder to register. Please bring your library card or provide us with your card number. Register in person or call the library at   Storytime classes will begin Tues., June 21st.

Summer Recreation Registration: Kids Camp & Teen Camp

The Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration in person and by mail for the Summer Recreation Program for both residents and non-residents.  The Parkland Summer Recreation Kids and Teen Program are for children ages 5-14.  Registration forms and camp calendars are available to download on the city website or may be picked up at the Parkland Amphitheater.  Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Spots fill quickly, so register early. Camp sites locations are both Westglades Middle School and Heron Heights for the Elementary Program and Westglades Middle School for the Teen Program.  Click here for more details Parkland, FL – Summer Camp for Kids

Optional Summer Camp Field Trip – Blizzard Beach or Universal Studios

On July 30, campers ages 8 and up may attend an optional field trip to either Blizzard Beach or Universal Studios.  The fee for this trip is $85.00 and includes transportation, admission to one of the parks, dinner, snack and supervision.  The hours of the trip are from 6AM-11PM.  Payment must be made no later than Friday, July 23.  Registration for this trip may be made online, at camp or at the amphitheater.  For further information, contact GerriAnn Dougherty at or email .

Summer Camp Open House

The Parkland Kids and Teen Camp Open House will be held on Saturday, June 19 from 10AM-1PM at each of the respective campsites.  This is an opportunity for your child to meet their counselors & directors, pick up camp shirts and other items as well as register for both the optional trips available this summer.  Also, if needed, sign up for the extended day program until 5PM.  It is recommended that all parents and campers attend this open house.

Summer Camp Balances Due

Summer Camp Balances due on or before Friday, May 14 for both Session A, Session B and Session C camp participants.  Camp balances may be paid in person at the Parkland Amphitheatre Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM or you can mail your balance payments to the Parkland Amphitheater at 10561 Trails End, Parkland, Florida 33470, Attn: Summer Camp Program or pay online at the City’s website by clicking Webtrac Online Services in the Parks and Recreation Department.  You will need a Username and Password to pay online.  You may get that information by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department at

NEW!  Art Classes for Adults, Teens & Children:  MON MAY 17

The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department is offering Art Classes for children, teens and adults on Mondays beginning in April.  The classes are held twice a month for each age group.  The fee for one class is $12 and for a five week series is $60.  Advance registration is required.  Click here for more details Parkland, FL – Art Classes

America’s Rod-A Tribute to Rod Stewart

Pine Trails Park Amphitheater, May 22, 2010  7:00 – 8:30 pm

The City of Parkland is proud to announce the performance of America’s Rod-A Tribute to Rod Stewart.  This performance will take place on May 22, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Pine Trails Park Amphitheater.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to join your neighbors for this spectacular FREE family event and performance.  No tents, pets or alcoholic beverages are allowed within the park.   Please contact Colleen O’Dea, Special Events Coordinator for more information at or .
