The Pine Tree Town Meeting Scheduled for May 26th is canceled.

Memorial Day Park Hours

All City of Parkland Parks will be closing at 6:00 pm on Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day.

No Limits Playground Opens at Terramar Park

The City of Parkland is proud to announce the opening of the No Limits Playground at Terramar Park.  This new playground replaced the oldest and smallest playground in the City.  The No Limits Playground is designed specifically for children with special needs to provide physical and social development and to foster combined play with children of all abilities.  Please join the City Commission for the Grand Opening on Thursday, May 27th at 6:30pm.

Liberty Park Maintenance

Liberty Park will be closed from May 3rd – May 29th in order to complete annual maintenance.

Library News

Summer Storytime Registration:   MAY 24 – MAY 26

During this three day period you may register your child’s name on our numbered storytime class lottery list.  There will be a separate list for each class.  You may register each child’s name only once per class.  Numbers will be drawn and all selected participants will be notified by June 2nd. You must be a Parkland Library cardholder to register. Please bring your library card or provide us with your card number. Register in person or call the library at   Storytime classes will begin Tues., June 21st.

Adult Summer Reading Kick Off:  SAT,  JUN 12th, 10:30 am

Literary Tea with Deborah Shlian, author of “Dead Air”

This summer’s theme is “WATER YOUR MIND: READ”. Join our summer reading club and get free stuff!   What to do: Register at the Parkland Library and get a “goody bag” and reading log.  Read three books, bring in your log and get a prize.  Check out more books, read more and get more prizes.  Turn in your completed reading log (nine books total) at the end of summer and you could win a grand prize too. Take a break this summer and visit the Parkland Library.  Registration required.

Summer Reading Club Kick Off Show and Registration:  MON, JUN 14th,  11:00 am

Swimming is Fun with Mr. Blue; a Puppet Show about Water Safety sponsored by PNC Bank.  This is an interactive, musical puppet show with many colorful, exciting water animals.  Also, every child age 2 and up will receive a “goodie bag” for registering for the library’s “Make a Splash, READ!” summer reading club.  Call

NEW!  Parkland Backgammon Club:   MAY 25

The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department presents the Parkland Backgammon Club.  This activity will be held from 3:00PM to 4:00PM on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Parkland City Hall, 6600 University Drive.  Beginners and advanced players are welcome. Sundae’s In the Park:  MAY 30 &  AUG 1st,  11:00 am – 1:00

Join the City of Parkland for Sundae’s In the Park, presented by North Broward Preparatory School on May 30, 2010 and August 1, 2010 at Terramar Park Playground.  This event is free and open to Parkland residents.  Please contact Colleen O’Dea, Special Events Coordinator for more information at

Summer Recreation Registration: Parkland Kids Camp and Teen Camp

The Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration in person and by mail for the Summer Recreation Program for both residents and non-residents.  The Parkland Summer Recreation Kids and Teen Programs are for children ages 5-14.  Registration forms and camp calendars are available to download on the city website or may be picked up at the Parkland Amphitheater.  Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Spots fill quickly, so register early. Camp sites locations are both Westglades Middle School and Heron Heights for the Elementary Program and Westglades Middle School for the Teen Program.  Click here for more details Parkland, FL – Summer Camp for Kids

Optional Summer Camp Field Trip – Blizzard Beach or Universal Studios

On July 30, campers ages 8 and up may attend an optional field trip to either Blizzard Beach or Universal Studios.  The fee for this trip is $85.00 and includes transportation, admission to one of the parks, dinner, snack and supervision.  The hours of the trip are from 6AM-11PM.  Payment must be made no later than Friday, July 23.  Registration for this trip may be made online, at camp or at the amphitheater.  For further information, contact GerriAnn Dougherty at or email .

Summer Camp Open House

The Parkland Kids and Teen Camp Open House will be held on Saturday, June 19 from 10AM-1PM at each of the respective campsites.  This is an opportunity for your child to meet their counselors & directors, pick up camp shirts and other items as well as register for both the optional trips available this summer.  Also, if needed, sign up for the extended day program until 5PM.  It is recommended that all parents and campers attend this open house.

Summer Camp Balances Due

Summer Camp Balances due on or before Friday, May 14 for both Session A, Session B and Session C camp participants.  Camp balances may be paid in person at the Parkland Amphitheater Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM or you can mail your balance payments to the Parkland Amphitheater at 10561 Trails End, Parkland, Florida 33470, Attn: Summer Camp Program or pay online at the City’s website by clicking Webtrac Online Services in the Parks and Recreation Department.  You will need a Username and Password to pay online.  You may get that information by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department at

NEW!  Art Classes for Adults, Teens & Children:  MON, JUNE  7

The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department is offering Art Classes for children, teens and adults on Mondays beginning in April.  The classes are held twice a month for each age group.  The fee for one class is $12 and for a five week series is $60.  Advance registration is required.  Click here for more details Parkland, FL – Art Classes

AARP Driver Safety Course:   MON, JUN 28 & WED, JUN 30

The AARP Driver Safety Course is a 6 hour course presented in 2 days (3 hours each day). City of Parkland Summer Magic Show:   SAT, JULY 10th

The City of Parkland and North Broward Preparatory School are proud to present the Summer Magic Show Series live at the Parkland Amphitheater at Pine Trails Park on Saturday, July 10, 2010 from 10:00am -11:00am.  Audience participation is needed so bring the entire family for this fun Parkland event.
