Job and Resources Fair To Be Held on February 17 at Broward College
Broward County Community Action Agency, Broward College and Work Force One have joined forces to present a Career and Resources Job Fair Expo. The free event will take place on Wednesday, February 17, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Broward College North Campus Omni Auditorium, 1000 Coconut Creek Blvd., Building 60, in Coconut Creek.
Candidates will have an opportunity to meet more than 100 of South Florida’s employers, representing industries such as education, healthcare, aerospace/aviation, government, leisure and hospitality, business, technological services, telecommunications and many more.
“Our region has especially been hit hard with job layoffs and I am hopeful that the Career and Resources Job Fair will bring those affected by layoffs new opportunities,” said Patricia West, director of the Broward County Family Success Administration Division.
Job seekers are encouraged to “dress to impress” and bring several copies of updated résumés. In addition to the exhibiting employers, the Career and Resources Job fair will offer workshops designed to provide attendants with tools and information helpful to their job search. Workshops will cover such topics as résumé critiquing, interview techniques and tips on networking and “working the room.”
Attendees will also be introduced to a range of social services provided by agencies including Broward County Family Success Administration Division, Broward Health Department, Children Services Council of Broward County and many others.
Participants will learn about financial assistance programs supported by the Community Services Block Grant or America Recovery Reinvestment Act resources, which are a part of the Community Action Agency’s outreach efforts.

Job fairs bring great hope for unemployed workers. Unfortunately, many will leave the job fair without a job or even the prospect of a job. Due to the size of a job fair event, the employer will meet hundreds of job seekers just like you. That’s why it is so important that you stand out.
How?
1. Have a great resume that sings your accomplishments and stands out above the other 50, 100, or 500 resumes they will receive.
2. Get the employers card so you can follow-up with them after the job fair is over.
3. Make a personal connection.
The powerful results are going to come from the follow-up, so make it a point to not just go to the job fair and hand out resumes. Make it a point to make a connection and follow-up after the job fair is over.
