DISPLACED HAITIAN STUDENT POPULATION – 703 STUDENTS TO DATE

As of Wednesday, February 10, 2010, a total of 703 children from Haiti have enrolled in Broward County Public Schools and Charter Schools. Of that number, 505 have limited English language skills.

The District has established a Haitian Relief Committee, which is providing for concerns relative to enrolling and placing students who are arriving from Haiti since the earthquake or students who cannot return due to the earthquake.  Students are enrolled at their boundary schools.

District staff in the Parent Outreach Office, who are fluent in Haitian Creole, are available to answer any and all questions off parents and caretakers about registration, educating English language learners and offer referrals to outside agencies including community health providers who are providing school physical exams and immunizations for these students at no cost.
