Teen murders elderly neighbor in Lauderdale Lakes for $34

A Lauderdale Lakes teen is in juvenile custody, charged with the brutal murder of an elderly neighbor late Saturday night.

A 9-1-1 call was received at 9:50 p.m. Saturday and the female caller told the Broward Sheriff’s Office Communications Center call-taker that someone had stabbed her grandmother in her apartment. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and BSO deputies responded to find Vibbins Williams, 62, brutally stabbed and barely alive. Williams was rushed to Broward General Medical Center, where, despite advanced life support measures by BSFR firefighter/paramedics, she died on arrival.

BSO homicide and crime scene detectives responded to the scene and determined the suspect was a teenage neighbor of the victim’s. Justin McDonald, 16, admitted to detectives that he stabbed Vibbins Williams multiple times during a robbery. The suspect made off with $34, leaving Williams bleeding to death in her apartment. Williams’ granddaughter showed up at her grandmother’s to find her barely alive in a pool of blood.

McDonald was charged with first degree murder and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) in Ft. Lauderdale for processing.
