Haitians flowing into South Florida after earthquake
Updated Jan. 28 – Broward Public Schools has enrolled 283 Haitian refugee students in local schools.
After the earthquake in Haiti, Broward County, along with Miami-Dade have been a hub for receiving quake victims, with many staying in the area after arriving at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. According to alerts from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, approximately 139 people have come from Haiti, though as of Monday, January 25, 115 children from Haiti have enrolled in Broward County Public Schools, with more expected.
Total numbers of Haitian refugees in South Florida is not yet known.
