Environmental Fair at Rickards Middle

On Saturday November 21st from 9 a.m. to Noon, Rickards Middle School (6000 NE 9 Avenue) will be hosting an outdoor environmental event to celebrate the Broward County Schools Green Initiative. There will be booths with members from these environmental organizations: Broward County NatureScape, The Greater Ft. Lauderdale Flyways Coalition, The Kids Ecology Corps and our very own Oakland Park Volunteer group, “Welcome Our Wildlife” which promotes property owners to certify their yard as a national wildlife habitat, through the National Wildlife Federation. There will also be a small plant give away at this event. This event is free to the public. For more information please call Charles Livio, Horticulturist, at 954-630-4511.

Environmental Lecture Series

The Park and Leisure Department’s Environmental Lecture series will continue on November 12, at 7 p.m., Dr. Kimberly Moore, a professor from the University of Florida, will speak on “How to Conserve and Manage your Home Irrigation System.” With current interest in water conservation and native planting, this should be an informative and interesting evening. Lectures take place in the Marie Wright Room of the Oakland Park Library. For more information, please call 954-630-4500.
