Election dates to replace Wexler set

The date for a special election to replace resigning U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler has been set by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. In an executive order, Crist announced that the primary election will be held Feb. 2, 2010 and the special general election will be held April 6, 2010.

Wexler resigned last month to take the position of president of the Center for Middle East Peace and will leave Congress effective January 2010.

Already several contenders have stepped up to the plate for seat currently held by a Democrat. Florida Sen. Ted Deutch, of Boca is expected to be the primary frontrunner for the Democrats while Ed Lynch,a Republican has been campaigning for quite some time, and took 27 percent of the vote in his first ever run for political office, but is now much more well known within Republican circles. West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel and Broward Mayor Stacy Ritter have expressed an interest in running as well.
