Chocolate extravaganza

The kitchen at Hugh’s Culinary in Oakland Park was hopping Friday night as guests joined Chef Hugh in the kitchen. Part of a unique, annual fundraiser for Broward Meals on Wheels, guests not only participated in auctions to help raise funds for the local non-profit, but also had fun creating meals in Hugh’s large kitchen designed for catering. A large array of meats, vegetables, and the night’s secret ingredient: chocolate – it was the Chocolate Extravaganza after all- filled a long table. These items were all that could be used in the creations. Several teams, including Savannah Court, Golden Law Group and Lennox Catering, had about 10 minutes to gather the items to prepare and one hour to prep, cook and serve their specialty creations. Each team had a chef from Hugh’s guiding them through the process, but the creations were designed by the guests. Afterwards, Chef Hugh judged the creations based on originality, timeliness and teamwork and then everyone attending the event ate their delectables.

The next fundraiser for Broward Meals on Wheels is the Festival of the Flutes – Woodstock ’09: It’s Hip to Give on Friday, Oct. 16 at the Marriott Heron Bay, . There will be a wine tasting, food, auction, 1960′s music to dance to, raffles, prizes, networking with business leaders, special guests and more. The proceeds also benefit Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund and Mothers Against Brain Injury. Tickets are available online at www.festivaloftheflutes.org or by calling All major credit cards accepted.
