September 11 Memorial
The City is again hosting a memorial to honor those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. Every year since the attacks, the City has hosted some kind of tribute to the victims and heroes of that day. This year, the ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 11 at the memorial outside the Northwest Regional Library, 3151 N. University Drive. The event, originally during the evening hours, was moved to the morning to be closer to the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Current military members and veterans are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Gina Orlando at 954-344-1147 or e-mail gorlando@coralsprings.org.

4th Annual “Golfing for the King” on September 11
The Coral Springs Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee presents the Fourth Annual “Golfing for the King” Golf Classic, to be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at the beautiful Heron Bay Golf Club, located at 11801 Heron Bay Boulevard, Coral Springs. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and Shotgun begins at 10:30 a.m. Registration fee includes breakfast, one hour on the range, an awards luncheon, and beverages on the course.
This event will benefit the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund for needy Coral Springs high school students regardless of ethnicity. In past years through the Committee’s efforts, more than 100 high school seniors have received scholarships in varying amounts based primarily on financial need. The students will apply the scholarship money towards their tuition costs at a university or other educational institution of their choice.
Since the scholarship program is entirely dependent upon the generous contributions of individuals and corporations, your donation to this cause is very important. All donations are tax-deductible as well. The fee to participate is $100.00 per person or $400.00 per foursome. There is a rain date of Friday, September 18, 2009. To register for golf, or for sponsorship opportunities, download the brochure here or contact Carey Suissa at (954) 649-3839 or Joyce Campos at (954) 344-1005 or jcampos@coralsprings.org.

Teens invited to join City’s Car Club on September 23
If you are a student at a high school in Coral Springs (or at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas), you are invited to join the Teen Car Club. Project CS was created in 2007 and since then, students have revamped two vehicles and hosted annual car shows. If this sounds like something you might be into, then the kick-off meeting at the Coral Springs Gymnasium is definitely where you should be on Wednesday, September 23 at 4 p.m. The club is all about whatever the members want, from choosing out of about seven cars to remodel, the new paint design of the vehicle, how you want it hooked up inside, all the way to what you want to do with it when it’s finished. With the help of some local mechanics and businesses, the finished products are entirely your decision. This club needs more than just car enthusiasts, we need people interested in business, mechanics, art, and advertising. Joining the club is free. The Coral Springs Gymnasium is located at 2501 Coral Springs Drive, near the intersection of Royal Palm Boulevard and Coral Springs Drive. For more information and preregistration, call 954-345-2204.
