Construction starting Monday on A1A in Fort Lauderdale north beach area

Work will begin Monday, Sept. 14, on improvements to S.R. A1A (N. Ocean Boulevard) in Fort Lauderdale’s north beach area from N.E. 18th Street (north of
Birch State Park) to Oakland Park Boulevard, Florida Department of Transportation officials report.

Traffic will be impacted by the closure of one lane at a time between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays. Initial work will include widening the sidewalk for two blocks between N.E. 18th Street and Atlantic Avenue and drainage improvements, which will require closing the adjacent northbound lane.

Other improvements in this one-mile-long construction zone will include sidewalk revisions at intersections, replacing the traffic signals at N.E. 30th Street and repaving the roadway.

This $939,000 project is expected to be completed by March 2010. Average daily traffic in this section of S.R. A1A is 28,500.
