Welch and Jones, a college student home for the summer, got into the argument shortly after 3 p.m. outside of Swifty’s Apartments on Northwest 31st Avenue. Welch lives in the building with his girlfriend, and Jones was visiting there during his break from school. Welch knocked the can of beer from Jones’ hand. Welch went inside his apartment, got a handgun and threatened to kill Jones. Jones said, “What are you going to do, shoot me?” Welch fired one shot into Jones’ abdomen.
Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue transported Jones to Broward General Medical Center, where he remained Thursday.
