Hollywood Fourth of July event

The Hollywood Beach & Broadwalk will sparkle once again as the City celebrates the nation’s 233rd birthday on Saturday, July 4, 2009 with a Star Spangled Spectacular sponsored by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts and the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency-Beach District.

Some highlights from 12:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

  • Entertainment at the Beach Theatre at Johnson Street includes performances by FUSIK, ROBBIE HAZEN AND THE RIOT, ELECTRIC ARROW, SALZON-JAZZ prior to Oldies Rock ‘n Roll with headliners, THE FABULONS.

  • Children’s fun with DJ and Games Master Tony Tiru at Charnow Park, Garfield Street and the Broadwalk beginning at 12:30 p.m.
  • Star-Spangled Spectacular Fireworks show beginning at 9:00 p.m.

A free shuttle will operate from 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. from the Fred Lippman Multi-Purpose Center, 2030 Polk Street, with drop-off and return at Johnson Street & A1A.

FREE SHUTTLE

Due to Hollywood Boulevard construction, heavy traffic and limited parking, it is strongly suggested the public utilize the City’s Free Shuttle which will operate from 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

ROAD CONSTRUCTION:  Hollywood Boulevard is under construction from FEDERAL HIGHWAY to the INTRACOASTAL BRIDGE. Alternate routes include Dania Beach Boulevard, Sheridan Street and Hallandale Beach Blvd.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS:  Due to Hollywood Boulevard construction and the need to create two westbound traffic lanes to expedite vehicular traffic leaving the barrier island, curbside parking will be prohibited on the North side of Hollywood Boulevard from 7th Avenue to 14th Avenue on July 3 and July 4.

BEACH PARKING

  • OceanWalk Mall Garage (A1A & Hollywood Boulevard)
  • Maurice Connell Garage (350 Johnson Street)
  • Michigan Street Lot (Directly behind the M. Connell Garage,

access by Michigan St)

  • North Beach Park (Sheridan Street at A1A) Open only until Sundown.
  • Garfield Street Parking Garage (300 Connecticut St)
  • Keating Park (2400 South Ocean Drive)
  • Dunewalk/Summit Lot (1200 South Ocean Drive)

FOR YOUR SAFETY

  • Hollywood Police will confiscate all fireworks including sparklers

throughout the day and evening.

  • Coolers, alcoholic beverages and glass containers are also prohibited.

RESTROOMS

Public Restrooms are located at Polk, Johnson, Hayes, Garfield and Taft Streets

on the Broadwalk.

RESIDENT & VISITOR ASSISTANCE

Those who need assistance should be taken to the nearest

Lifeguard Station until 8 p.m. or a Police officer.

BRIDGE SCHEDULES

Intracoastal bridges will maintain their regular schedules throughout the day and early evening.  From 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. the following bridges will remain in down position to allow vehicular traffic to exit the beach:

Dania Beach Boulevard * Sheridan Street * Hollywood Boulevard

NO VEHICULAR ACCESS FROM 8 – 11 P.M.

Between Hollywood Boulevard & Sheridan Street

Northbound A1A vehicles south of Harrison Street will be diverted south to Hallandale Beach Boulevard at 8:00 p.m.

Southbound vehicles on A1A north of Sheridan Street will be diverted to westbound Sheridan Street at 8:00 p.m.

EXITING THE EVENT AFTER FIREWORKS

Vehicles parked on Johnson Street and all points south will be directed southbound on A1A.

Vehicles parked on Minnesota Street to Thomas Street will be directed northbound to Sheridan Street.

Vehicles parked at North Beach Park and all points north will be diverted northbound to Dania Beach Boulevard.
