Police looking to ID thieves who killed teen
A group of teens was robbed and one senselessly killed in front of a Lauderdale Lakes High School, even after complying with the thieves’ demands.
The group of friends was waiting on the sidewalk in the 4100 block of NW 29 Avenue, in front of Boyd Anderson High School, for someone to pick them up following a school function, when a Mustang pulled up and three gunmen, wearing bandanas over their faces, jumped out to rob them. The teens complied with the robbers’ demands and handed over their valuables, but one of the thugs still pulled the trigger killing 16-year-old Gregory Smith. The suspects then got back into the Mustang and fled southbound on 29 Avenue.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue pronounced Smith dead on the scene. The other teens were not harmed.
BSO Homicide detectives are searching for four suspects, all said to be black males, in their late teens to early 20s, wearing bandanas over their faces.
• The driver of the Mustang is described as being heavy-set.
• Of the three gunmen: one is of dark complexion, wears prescription glasses, has short dreads or twisties, and has a thin build; another is of light complexion and has a short afro.
The Mustang is described as a dark blue or dark green, mid-90s to early 2000 model, hard top Mustang, with the word “Mustang” written on the vehicle.
