Congress asking FAA to investigate FXE airport after Oakland Park plane crash
Three members of Congress who represent areas of Oakland Park have sent letters urging the Federal Aviation Administration to take a close look at the reports from a recent plane crash there. On April 7, a twin-engine Cessna left Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport and radio’d in engine trouble before crashing into an Oakland Park home. Since this is the sixth such crash since 2004, Cong. Debie Wasserman-Schultz, Alcee Hastings and Ron Klein are requesting the FAA investigate. The trio has asked the FAA to consider extra inspections at the airport, alternate routes and to look at safety violations.
“We also understand that FXE officials previously requested greater feedback from FAA regarding pilot safety violations. Currently, privacy concerns have prevented adequate data exchange between FAA and FXE regarding trends in violations,” the letter reads.”Enacting the highest possible safety standards will help ensure the community around FXE that the freuency of these accidents will no longer be tolerated…”
